illuminated of light divine
burning from within with joy
casting carelessly over hillocks and meadows
with prancing feet gliding o'er the snow

oh...i forgot to add wat i wanted to say actually....
well...juz wanna say that i totally love their archi education system in uni of waterloo....
they have the co-op system meaning that every year, they study for 1 sem and work for 1 sem....so u study, den work, den study, den work and so on and so forth...and e best thing is that they get to work ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! u can apply for jobs aniwhere in e world...stay and work there for 6 months...and come back to sch...how cool is dat! and i seriously think that this system allows u to learn so much more stuffs...now i kinda understand y they have so much readings and theory in sch....itz a gd foundation course....den u go out and work...which is e practical aspect....
i so envy the pple here...they've worked in shanghai, paris, london, newyork, germany, czech, taiwan...watever city, u name it...den at e end of it they gotta do some portfolio thingy and submit to e sch...
then when they get to yr4...they all go rome! yes...rome...italy...for sch...so they gotta learn italian here..haha..which is wat i'm learning now...juz for fun....so yeah, now i noe abit of italian...juz a little bit...
and wat crap....NUS scrapped the year-out...which is totally bad....bad bad bad...
if only...if only i get to do co-op...

yay...first proj handed in today...
well....looked around abit...seems like more pple here draft than use e comp...and their drafting and renderings r really quite nice! serious...there isnt anione in our batch in NUS of this standard...not dat i know of...
well...vast difference in terms of quality of work...some really v nice, well presented...some really last min sketches and cut and paste photos etc...some panels mounted, some in pieces...etc....oh well, they din specify the submission requirements, so i guess..anithing goes...juz abit sianz dat i spent $4.50 on white foam board juz to mount my panels...which actually i din have to...oh well...juz looks better i guess...but who cares manz...
i guess we'll have to wait for thurs to see e rest of e class...cos not everyone works in studio...and not dat i noe everyone...so i cant possibly go around looking at other pple's work without feeling wierd...
well...e prob i have here now is e readings...i really really really cant digest all e readings...sigh...i hope i pull this thru....urban essay due every two wks...modernism thesis due at e end....crap...
well, i'm kinda used to e life here now...only that time is always not enough...not dat i'm super bz...no....serious, i'm much more slack than in sg...but den maybe itz e pace of life that makes me stone more..and i waste so much more time stoning....i read, den stone...den surf net aimlessly for interesting stuffs or checking tv prog or cooking receipes for my nxt meal...den read...den stone...den read....and somehow fall asleep...argh...
aniwae have i said that the canadians are not used to e british accent? that's wat one of them was complaining about...she cant understand british english...which...i'm totally perfectly fine wif...actually i much prefer the british english than american/canadian ones...cos somehow they dun pronounce the words properly....and to try to speak like them (growing up frm a country which teach british english) is kinda hard....words like water becomes 'wa-'d'-er'...somehow e 't' hides itself somewhere in e word...itz easy to pick up their accent....but to speak totally like them takes some conscious effort...
so i mean...since americans/canadians/british/australians etc have their accents....y cant singaporeans have their singlish accent? haha..okok...somehow singlish doesnt sound as nice ya....but since americans have their lingos, y cant singaporeans have theirs too? like lah lor leh....i mean...its totally fine rite....in comparison to the americans 'f***' which punctuate their sentences sometimes...
itz juz dat america is a huge superpower country and watever they invent is alright and watever puny singapore invents is not...sad ah....

hi...well itz been erm 2 weeks of sch already...i guess i shld post some pics of my sch ya...so here they are, but well, some not very well taken, so i'll be taking nicer pics...hopefully...
view of the school of architecture of the university of waterloo. if you don't already know, my faculty is the only faculty that's off campus...we're one hour away frm the main campus...so yeah, situated in an ulu town all alone...
aniwae this used to be a silk factory or something like that....so it was converted to the sch now...
main entrance of school...itz quite cool, when e sunlight shines the words "architecture" is cast on the ground...wall...depending on e angle of e sun...
sch's sitting by the Grand River...this was taken in e evening...
this is e library....a place where we frequent...i kinda like seating layout of the library...the wooden platform runs through the whole length of wall, separated into sections by bookshelves...and we sit on the tatami mats and read books...bored? look at the river scenery outside the window..
this is e lecture hall...there's only ONE lecture hall in this sch...ok, there's only like a main studio where yr1-3 are..i dunno where e yr4 are though...masters students in some other room....den there's a comp room, office, other staff offices and admin rooms etc, a loft area for crits or lectures as well...maybe another one or two smaller classrooms for smaller classes....a workshop...a library...wat else...oh a gallery and cafe...and that's about all...building seems huge but there's only like these few stuffs....cos all these rooms juz take up so much space...
aniwae i attended this guest lecture by Tony Fretton today....some london architect...supposedly known but i dunno him...haha...watever...was intently taking notes etc at first...den slowly spaced out into other stuffs...was entertained by my wacky housemates...kids lah, yr1s...dun bother to listen to lecture...kept drawing on my sketchbook...

just spent e last 3 hrs watching the last few episodes of "1 litre of tears"...
i think i'd have almost cried 1 litre of tears if i was watching e show alone...
thank you mark for recommending the show...really...very inspirational, touching show...
i've never really liked jap dramas before...cos most of e time they were too slow and draggy...and those love stories, were just plain dumb sometimes....
but dis show is really really different...itz based on a true story about a gal who was diagnosed with with a disease called Spinocerebellar Degeneration when she was 15 years old, and chronicles how she coped with this progressive incurable disease till her death 10 years later...
itz so sad...to see how her quality of life can degrade so quickly...and e love from her family and friends is just so so touching...really, if it was me, i wouldnt have e courage to live like her...
e soundtrack is really nice too...oh gosh...i think if i hear e song i'd be sad...
and for once...e actors and actresses can really act...not juz act cute or sei...but ACT...
Go Watch The Show...most of e quotes and phrases are from the diary she wrote...it gives a really different perspective of life...
meanwhile...step by step...cherish whatever we have now...

hihi..well, decide to post some pics of wat i've done so far...guess pple muz be interested...
went to e Cambridge Farmer's Market on sat morn...it opens on every sat morn frm 6am to 1pm only...products r really fresh and looks really good!! but kinda ex compared to those food stores...cos they're fresh mah....bought half a dozen of corn, a basket of apples, a bottle of honey and a packet of chicken thighs....haha...thighs and wings are much cheaper than chicken breasts....dat's gd for me...cos e cheaper meat is actually e nicer meat to me...hehe
of cos have been doing quite alot of cooking....dis is us, me and my housemates making homemade pizza! haha...it actually tastes quite good...v v filling....
yeps....these are those living wif me....clockwise, richard (korean who moved to vancouver ), youjie (fellow exchange student wif me) , dion (frm hongkong who moved to alberta), eisa (korean who moved to vancouver).....we were making bbq chicken...yum!
well, eat so much...muz exercise abit....e scenery in cambridge is really nice...i live nxt to a river...so dis is one stretch of e river....chanced upon dis place while jogging...aniwae shall post a pic of my hse and rm and neighbourhood one day...
well, cambridge is really an ulu small town..not much night life...well, apparently every thurs e archi students hold a party at a pub called Walshee's....where there's free music, free pool and free darts....drinks r really cheap...but i din drink lah...yeps, so went to check it out last wk....played pool wif these two ladies and youjie....nxt to me is sabrina (gal in blond, fellow classmate, from alberta)....and virginie (another exchange student from switzerland)...
well, that's all for now....shall post more stuffs soon....

itz been a really long time since i last blogged...sorrie...
well..e whole time i've disappeared i've been to chicago, pittsburgh, newyork, rhinecliff, toronto and cambridge...and now settling down in cambrige...e canada one fyi...haha..
a damn long story if i wanna elaborate bout my usa travel...so...yeps, shall let pics do e talking...maybe one day when i'm bored i shall discuss issues i thot during my trip....used to have alot to say...right now i'm juz not in e mood/have alot of things to do/already forgot wat i wanted to say/wrote stuffs in travel journal, dun wanna repeat.....yeps...so there's a link in my blog to photobucket where u can see my travel pics on e different dates....took a long time for me to combine 5 cameras/7G worth of pics and sort them/reduce them to 3G...itz gonna be another day of sorting tmr cos just received another batch of pics frm another friend....apologies for delay as well as e pics r kinda messed up, trying to tweak photobucket to putting my pics in chronological/numerical order...itz kinda stupid...
well, if u r wondering y i sound so unexcited...yeah, cos not exactly in a good mood now....it was officially MY first day of sch today...and sigh...
i'm still in my hol mood lah...still v nua, still wanna rest...den went to sch, gotta socialise and meet new pple...got kinda tired aft a while...i'm not exactly a socialising person...so ya...
den studio started and i was bombarded wif a load of readings and websites and books to look at for my first project...urban public space...small scale proj to be done in 2 wks...well, proj is fine i guess...just that i dunno much bout e culture/geography/climate etc here..so got alot to research and there's like hardly time...and i still dun even noe exactly where e site is...sigh
din have time for lunch...and lunch/dinner tgt....den went for my nxt lecture...modern architecture....itz not like sg lectures...cos itz a small grp of only 60pple...and cos our classroom is still not built yet and there's no space in sch we had dis lecture at one of e classrooms in e church across e rd...supposed to use e basement but it was flooded cos someone left e tap in e toilet on e day b4...ya, as i was saying...there was interaction btw lecturer and students...which is gd lah...but den cos itz e first lesson i had trouble catching watever he was saying cos watever he was teaching was really abstract...e idea of modern, modernism, modernity, post-modernity and advant-garde...and again threw us a load of readings etc....sigh....felt so sad....i think i might fail dis module....seriously, watever he said juz goes in one ear and out e other...
so now...i'm feeling kinda depressed....maybe cos my period's here too and my hormones messed up...but den...ya...depressed....
worse..i came home wif loads of housework to do....actually i'm kinda used to doing housework liao...i feel like i'm being a clean freak here cos everything here's just filthy to me...and i cant stand it...
well, one thing is dat i've come to enjoy cooking...itz something i kinda look forward to...cos itz kinda fun...
ok shall update again some other time...slpy...and really cold....
