i think songs have a powerful effect on me...
or more like e mood of e day have an influence on e songs i choose to listen to...
aniwae..am listening to jay chou's old albums now...(i'm still not v productive in work)...which started me thinking of e issue of songs...
well..primary sch era was split into two phases...the early period was a time when i was listening to oldies like que sera sera and some other songs which i still, till now, dunno the title...oh of cos, i listened to children's songs from cassette tapes as well..of cos..i was a kid then....
the later period, as i was older, was the time i watched too many sbc/tcs shows...a time when i used to memorize e tunes and lyrics of the theme songs of the shows...and i used to sing wif my sis at nite and we wld try to harmonize duets...oh it was so fun...and amazingly till now, i still remember how to sing some of them...
secondary sch was characterized by the radio...i was listening to the radio like everyday...many hours a day...the first three years or so, i was mainly listening to 987fm...it was a great period, wif jean danker, carrie chong, rob monterio, glenn ong and his five guys and a gal, and later daniel ong joined the team...i was so hooked on five guys and a gal...seriously...its really funny...my sis and i would record snippets and listen to the recordings over and over again..and laugh over and over again...cant believe we did that...songs were of britney spears and christina arguilera early years...
after a major shuffle in the 987 team..and e demise of 5 guys and a gal...i got bored of english radio...it was boring..songs were boring...it started to get all e rap and hip hop wierd music which i din like...so i switched to yes933...i still remb the times when me and sharon would study tgt at macs and we would listen to yes933 and wait for the "y y yu le zhan" at 1.45pm everyday...itz madness...i would wait for the segment every nite too...and "xian ge ji yi" was the norm before i fall asleep each day...used to hear alot of crappy love stories on air...and alot of time, i thot these pple r so stupid...haha...somewhere in between was a jap craze, anchored by ayumi hamasaki and utada hikaru...and all the jap dramas showing on tv....
jc was a time of specialization...meaning i listened to mainly songs by certain artists...oh, it was a chinese era...e only times i would listen to eng music were 1.in the car, my dad listens to class 95 or gold 90.5 or 2.my sis blasting english music on e comp at home or 3.my bro blasting eng oldies at home....otherwise, i'm wif the chinese songs...the craze then was jay chou...yes, even i got hooked aft that...slightly before jay chou craze i was listening to stefanie sun...cos i bought her album in china in sec 3...but ya, jay chou was the main guy in jc era. my class was listening to jay...jay's songs filled the air everyday in cambodia...jay's books were being passed around...my lab partner and i would listen to jay chou in the reading room...my gal frens and i would sing jay songs...we would play jay songs on the piano in the concourse...stef comes in once in a while...i guess maybe a great influence also came from a someone who liked jay alot at that time...
after jay...david tao, jolin tsai joined in the ranks..but i wld say jay had the greatest power...chinese music continued to fill my life throughout my working period...into the uni life...for a while, jay's songs were kinda painful, and i turned to other songs from females...stef sun, penny dai, jolin tsai, tanya chua...and alot of duets...yes, chinese duets came in in j2...but i continued to listen to them....jacky cheung and william so for while due to the influence of my dear lab partner...however, there are times i do switch to power98 now and then for eng songs...
uni life was the ktv era...it's ktv ktv ktv....and still, specialization of songs....but now target had changed....attention was turned to watever new album came out by the famous singers...and it was fueled by project superstar and campus superstar...so singers like david tao, lin jun jie, wang li hong and jolin tsai were added to my song vocabulary...jay chou and stef sun were still famous...but not as hyped as the first four...alot of other previously obscure songs surfaced thanks to project superstar...and now, i too know how to sing all these songs thanks to ktv...well, it wasnt only ktv...the amount of time hanging out wif my aki frens and taking their cars, esp zongye's and mel's...infused the songs into my head...ktv was not the only hobby shared within the aki circle...i guess it influenced singapore...slowly, ktv as a grp activity for orientation outings, grp meetings etc...became rampant...other group artists include mayday, FIR, SHE...i think my current craze would be wang li hong...and somehow it always reminds me of a friend...
then here i am in cambridge...somehow chinese songs doesnt seem to be appealing...and changing my discs on my laptop became a hassle...so i switched to english radio...have been listening to the same few songs over and over again in cambridge radio...i swear that if i ever hear those songs, it'll definitely remind me of my time here mugging in my room...korean songs also came into my songlist...its the korean craze now...jap songs and dramas have kinda disappeared in sg, as well as in my head...i've been watching too many korean shows in canada...
but of cos every now and then i would listen to my old outdated songlists...like now...and start reminising...
certain songs do remind me of certain times, certain pple...
actually...this is juz a sort of run thru...i guess there are alot of other details i've missed out...but yes...i do miss all those times...its been fun...memorable...music had always been part of my life...esp then....somehow i feel like i'm losing touch wif music...sadly...
